Autumn half term Sports report
Sports Ambassadors
Our 4 yr 6 sports ambassadors (1 missing in the photo above) travelled to Henham Primary school on Thursday 21st September where they received an afternoon of training about their role within the school. They had a wonderful afternoon and returned all excited about helping out at future sports events.
Football festivals
The yr6 and yr3 girls travelled to Felsted primary school for their football festival on Friday 22nd September while the yr3 boys festival was held on the home turf. For the start of the event all children received an hour of skills based training followed by a series of competitive games in mixed school teams. Everybody enjoyed themselves and the level of football improved throughout the sessions.
Football Competition
On Wednesday 4th October Katherine Semar school and Herberts Farm in Saffron Walden hosted both the boys and girls football tournaments. Our yr5 boys represented DMS in the morning coming up against some very tough opposition. We won 1, drew 1 and lost 3 games making us 7th overall. In the afternoon the yr5/6 girls played. They also met some strong teams which resulted in them gaining 1 win, 2 draws and 2 defeats putting them in 7th place again. All pupils improved throughout the tournament, supporting each other and playing with great sporting attitude.
Dodgeball Competition
The Dodgeball tournament was held at Felsted Independent school on Friday 6th October. Ten yr6 pupils represented DMS in a closely fought and exciting tournament. They came second in the pool winning 2 games and losing 1 resulting in them getting through to the semi-finals. DMS won this game putting them in the finals against the team that had beaten us in the pools. Both teams were very nervous, forcing some fantastic shots and evasive dives. Despite a valiant effort unfortunately they couldn’t beat the winning team putting us in 2nd place overall but through to the finals competition on Wednesday 22nd November.
X Country Competitions
Both Bentfield and Stebbing school held open cross country races. We had a great representation at both events with some fantastic results. Well done to all those who competed.
Kurling and Boccia Competition
Four pupils represented the school at the Kurling and Boccia tournament on Wednesday 18th October at Lord Butler Leisure Centre, Saffron Walden. This event was a totally new experience for all pupils involved. They had a quick practice and learnt the rules before playing a series of games against other schools. DSM came 2nd overall missing 1st place by 2 points. A very close competition. All pupils enjoyed trying the new sports especially the kurling.
