We are very lucky, in our school, to have volunteers from our year 6 who play lead. They are a very important part of our lunch times and help the children in reception and KS1 with their play. They are important role models for these younger children and are a great help to the adults.
They do 1 or 2 duties a week, some do more and earn bronze, silver and gold awards. Also once a month we have a play leader of the month, from the 2 areas, recognising outstanding effort.
The current year 5s have done their training, in preparation for September and are all having a go to see if they want to volunteer, once they are in year 6.
To say thank you to all our retiring play leaders and before they go on to secondary school we had a fun celebration on our field on Tuesday afternoon.
We started off with 4 teams, headed by Mrs Stock, Mrs Waldock, Mrs Beedle and Miss Free, for our silly sports events. The 3 legged race was the trickiest but was very funny to watch and balancing eggs on spoons definitely needs more practice.
Once all the races were completed the water battle commenced. The children absolutely loved spraying each other but were even more delighted at getting the adults . We were all extremely wet by the end of it.
After all the fun we sat and dried off with snacks and drinks, much needed after all that exertion. The scores were announced for the sports events and the winners collected their end of year gift first. Everyone was given a jar filled with sweets and goodies.
