Kes Gray, author of a vast range of popular children’s books including the ‘Daisy’ series and favourites such as ‘Billy’s Bucket’ and ‘Oi Frog’, had the children of Dunmow St Mary’s utterly enthralled when he visited the school as part of their World Book Day Celebrations. Kes had warned ‘When I visit a school I try to have as much fun as I possibly can have. I will be mischievous, I will make a fool of myself, I will leave crumbs in my wake’. The children loved every second of his assemblies in which he shared memories of his childhood and how these help to make his books ‘fizz’.
“I think it was hilarious when he pretended to be Darth Vader especially the breathing” one child commented while another laughed “I loved when he put the Daisy wig on to read to us”.
Suzanne Wood the school librarian who organised the visit said the whole school had been buzzing since his visit which has proved inspirational to the children
