Year 1 have worked hard this week building houses in a traditional Tudor style. We tried to make our own thatched roofs’ using hay and made beams using wooden sticks. On Friday afternoon, we were able to stage our very own ‘Great Fire of London’ using our house models. Dunmow Fire Service came to our school bringing with them one of their fire engines. We set up our houses on the field, making sure they were close together just like how they would have been in 1666. Then the fire men set our mini city on fire! The children loved watching how the fire spread from house to house and imagining how this would have looked with real houses.
