Governors

Governors are very knowledgeable and bring a wealth of expertise, skills and passion to their roles. Governors use these skills and attributes to provide you with well-judged support and challenge.
OFSTED, 2018

School Governors are volunteers drawn from different backgrounds, bringing a wide range of skills and experience to the role. They include representatives from our school community including staff, parents, the church, local authority and co-opted members from the local community.

They are responsible for overseeing the overall performance of a school and are not involved in day to day management. Working alongside senior leaders and teachers their role is to:

  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding school leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff
  • Overseeing financial performance, making sure the schools money is well spent

The Governors have a shared vision that our children will flourish by becoming resilient, reflective, independent learners who achieve their very best academically in a supportive environment.

This is delivered with our topic based curriculum providing broad learning in a creative, engaging and relevant manner to suit different types of learners. We celebrate our links with St Mary’s church inclusively so that all of our children can develop the core values of kindness, tolerance, truth and respect regardless of their cultural or religious background.

Most importantly we recognise that children must love learning and school to achieve their best and that learning should be broad, including many opportunities outside of simple classroom teaching and core subjects. Each child needs to be recognised as an individual to be nurtured and developed so that they can reach their own potential.

The Governors, the school leaders and the whole school team are united behind this vision and strive each day to deliver it for the children in our care.
