On Friday 14th October, Year 5 visited the Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare Krishna Temple in Hertfordshire. This beautiful building was given to the Hindu community by George Harrison (from The Beatles).
The children were taken on a tour of the George Harrison gardens and compassionate farm, where they enjoyed meeting the cows and bulls. After this, they were treated to an interactive presentation on Hindu beliefs and stories of creation, where children exchanged flower garlands to ensure good Karma and dressed up as Hindu Gods and Goddesses that are worshipped by Hindus around the world. The children were also led through some mantra meditations, that left everybody feeling clam and at peace.
We were then invited to join the Hindu school children from the Temple in their worship of Vishnu and Krishna. This took place in a room with a beautiful shrine, where the children soaked up the joyful atmosphere of singing, dancing and music performed by the children from the Temple’s Primary School.
Mr Heath and Miss Oggelsby were extremely proud of the way the children engaged with all the activities, and the Temple staff made particular mention of how impressive the children’s understanding of the Hindu faith was. Well done Year 5!
