Learning from Home

Work to do at home

We really do appreciate all that you are being able to do with your children at home during this time. Above all else we want you and your children to stay safe, keep happy and try to enjoy the time as a family as best you can. We do not want to add extra pressure at a time when many of you will be trying to juggle working from home as well as looking after your children. Play board games, share stories and keep your spirits up! If you are able to get up to 2 hours of work a day at home for your children you are doing an amazing job!

In addition to the work class teachers are providing there is now also an area for more general resources if you are looking for something a little extra. The folder can be found by following the link below and will be updated with new resources every now and then.

Work can be accessed using the following link:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/17PRRe9TX7dSHIulrihbQMjrpEBB51j4A?usp=sharing

As a reminder, in the folder, you will find work and suggested activities for each year group. Additional work will appear in a new folder on a weekly basis. Keep using the same link above to access it.

As previously stated, we will aim to provide work that:

  • is accessible and achievable for children. The desired outcome is to keep skills sharp, not for you as parents to deliver and teach new material
  • has clear desired outcomes, so that you don’t have to guess what teachers would like children to do
  • doesn’t expect too much. We appreciate that children’s mindset at home can be very different from school.
  • doesn’t always require a printer, but could be viewed on-screen and completed in your child’s exercise book.

We will also provide as best we can a range of other suggested activities appropriate for each year group along with an overview sheet to support home learning.

Depending on the length of closure we are hoping to provide an increasingly broader range of activities to suit your children at home.

We appreciate that these are challenging times and hope that the work provided will help to support your children’s continued development. Please do support them as much as you are able to do so.

If you have any questions please do let us know.

Contacting your teacher

In an attempt to help ensure we are providing as much support as we can during the school closure, we have set up new email addresses for each class to enable you and your children to contact the teachers directly.

We feel that regular contact during this time is important for everyone, most importantly for the well-being of your children. We want you to know the school is still here and teachers are still there for their classes.

So that this system works as well as possible for everyone we ask that you please follow the guidelines below.

We ask that you:

  • send only one email per week so that this is manageable for teachers. As a result, please think carefully about what you’d like to include. Teachers may well decide to send questions in response, to which you may reply.

Your email can contain:

  • updates from your children – they are welcome to write some or all of the email with you alongside them, but not alone
  • questions from you or your children about the work teachers set
  • photos/pictures of work or activities that your children may have done at home. Although, please do not include photos of your children.

Please don’t:

  • request additional work (any feedback with regards to work packs should be directed towards Mr Jarvis via admin@dsmprimary.essex.sch.uk)
  • request work to be marked (it isn’t something that is possible at this time)
  • request individual updates on progress of your child prior to the school closure
  • ask teachers to phone you at home or on your mobile. If you feel you do need to speak to someone, please contact the school via admin@dsmprimary.essex.sch.uk and request a call back.

Please be aware that it may take longer than 24 hours for a response to come through and that if teachers are ill they may not respond.

For safeguarding reasons, all emails will be monitored by a school Designated Safeguarding Lead.
