A new piece of play equipment is creating waves of excitement and a renewed enthusiasm for outside play. The school was aware that the previous play structure was reaching the end of its natural life and so we sought the opinions of our students through ‘Student Voice’ meetings to find out what they would like to see more of in the playground. With the overwhelming feedback being a ‘more challenging piece of equipment for the older children’ the school started looking at means of fund raising.
As part of the ‘Big Lottery Fund’ the ‘Awards for All England Funding’ provides grants of between £300 and £10,000 to communities. The school was delighted to be awarded the full £10,000 towards their ‘Health Attack’ project and this combined with a further £5,000 donation from their PTA enabled the purchase of the new ‘Space Orbiter’.
The children cannot believe their luck and the race is on each break and play time to get as much time as possible on the new equipment. One Year 6 child said ‘it’s really cool to know we were listened to and everyone loves the new equipment’.
