On Thursday 28th September we all celebrated National Poetry Day with lots of exciting activities for every child in the school.
Reception read some nonsense poems and couldn’t stop laughing while Mr Jarvis’ class were given the challenge of writing a poem that would make their teacher laugh: it wasn’t difficult!
The theme of National Poetry Day itself was Freedom and the year 6 classes both wrote poems around this subject based on the topic of war and peace from their current study of the Battle of Hastings. These were particularly amazing.
Mrs Wood had created a Poem Hunt in the playground which encouraged the children to read a wide variety of poems that had been hidden in bushes, the trees and the play equipment. The children had lots of fun finding the poems and discovering the secret word which linked them all (which was of course, FREEDOM!).
