Year 4 had a fantastic start to their River Topic with a trip to explore the River Chelmer as it continues its journey through Essex. Their day was activity packed with a visit to both Sandon Mill and Maldon.
At Sandon Mill, the children were given a practical display of a river’s journey from source to sea and observed how the current flowed at different points in the river. This was followed by a walk along the canal to look at the locks and learn how they work.
In Maldon the children observed the mud flats and reflected how the river they had visited in Dunmow and Sandon was the same river they were looking at now.
