Y4 had an absolutely brilliant time over the last half-term learning all about the Romans. Following their exciting hands-on hook day where Mrs Griffiths explained the Roman history of Dunmow St. Mary’s Primary School the children got to hold the 2,000-year-old artefacts that were found underneath our school field. Over the course of the topic, the children discovered more fascinating facts about the Romans through: a ‘Roman experience’ where they got to dress, work, build, speak and worship like a Roman; using the Chromebooks to search an area of Roman life they were particularly curious about; and a surprise visit from Boudicca who destroyed the classrooms and left clues to tell the children about the dreadful fires she set during Roman times. They have made Roman pottery, designed and created their own gladiator shields and put together a fantastic Roman museum exhibition to share what they have learnt. If you are a parent of a Y4 child, make sure your child shows you their brilliant museum video by logging into the Y4 Google Classroom.
