To celebrate the end of British Science Week, on Friday 16th March, we held our School’s Science Day. With this year’s theme being: Exploration and Discovery, the children were treated to a selection of hands-on activities to get them asking questions and encouraging Scientific thinking. The teachers were joined by mini astronomers, botanists, chemists, physicists, marine biologists and palaeontologists, who:
- Excavated dinosaur bones
- Explored the colours of chromatography and density rainbows
- Created giant bubbles
- Played around with the science of surface tension
- Dissected beans
- Built structures to hold weight and create height
- Witnessed explosive chemical reactions
- Tested absorbent materials
- Tested materials to absorb impact
- Made chemical lava lamps
- Played games using magnets
- And watched the magic of invisible inks
The children had so much fun getting stuck into the science – hopefully you’ve heard all about their day already and perhaps tried some of the experiments at home too!
