We had a great time at West Stow exploring a restored Anglo-Saxon village. We visited the experimental village, full of houses built in different ways for a variety of purposes. We met the re-enactors who like to live and breathe Anglo-Saxon life, before being called to the Great Hall to gather around the fire-pit for more stories and questions answered. We had a tour of the museum, enjoying dressing up in Anglo-Saxon clothes and holding real artifacts that had been excavated from the village. We learnt how to ‘talk to the evidence’, thinking about what questions we would ask these artifacts, and how to understand what the artifacts can tell us about the people who made and used them.
