Year 4 started off Spring term learning all about how evidence of Roman presence in Dunmow has been found on their very own school fields. Children were shown examples of pieces of brick and pottery found on school land – some of which have been on display at Colchester castle and museum!
The potential of finding more Roman brick, pottery or even coins (!) on school fields proved hard to resist and the children did a fine job of becoming archeologists for the morning whilst excavating a section of their school’s field near the greenhouses. Several piece of Roman brick were found by the children along with plenty of worms and stones. Sadly, no Roman coins were to be found on the day, despite some fabulous attempts at energetic digging by our budding archeologists.
